Precious

Ideal home: Precious will thrive in a home where her people are home most of the time. She loves deeply and craves attention. Precious' ideal home is one with no small children or other animals, preferably in a quieter neighbourhood. She is quite active and responds well to training, but would not be well-suited to first time dog owners. Breed experience would be ideal to set her up for success.

Personality: Precious has a warm personality, she is very loving and affectionate. She is sassy and persistent with the things she wants. She loves being on the couch and near her people. She is a very clean dog, loves to keep her paws clean all the time. She is a smart girl and learns quickly. Precious loves food and will happily supervise you while you are cooking. Since she is food motivated, she is easily trainable, but consistency will be important for her. She has high play drive and loves a good game of tug!

Age: ~4 years old
Breed: Mixed
Weight: 55lbs
Gender: Female
Energy level: Medium

Good with dogs: Precious tends to fixate on other dogs while on walks, which will require ongoing training. She interacts well on leash for the most part but needs proper introductions. She can be protective of her handler when in the presence of other dogs, off leash interactions should be limited with other dogs unless she knows the other dog.
Good with cats: No
Good with kids (+ ages): 12+
Good with strangers: She is friendly with people and loves attention. She takes well to women, however she can become protective of her female caretaker when men are around. She will interact well in general and is comfortable with men, but can get defensive without warning. We have not seen this behaviour with women.
Guarding issues: She has exhibited guarding of her female handler, particularly with men, so this will be something to continue to work on.
Behavioural issues: Sporadic guarding of female handler.
House trained: Yes
Crate trained: Precious knows to go to bed and will sleep in her crate all night. She does resist sometimes, but will eventually go in if her handler is persistent. She is completely content with being in her crate when she has company in the room. She becomes very vocal when she is alone and is left in the crate. Per our trainers advice, her foster has been using an e-collar to correct her protest barking. She now completely settles down in her crate and can be left alone for extended periods of time.
Separation anxiety: No, but Precious will protest bark/cry when left and can be stubborn. She has been left up to 5 hours at this point.
Destructive: Precious hasn't shown any signs of destruction.
Leash skills: Precious has greatly improved on her leash skills. She gets excited when she sees other dogs while on her walk, but she is now calm and waits for any dog to approach her. She doesn't pull too much. She still does it on occasion, but she is very responsive to her handler while on a walk.
Okay with manipulations: Yes, she loves any attention.
Medical issues: Precious seems to have allergies/sensitive skin. We suspect she is allergic to chicken.
